The Library Committee welcomes donations of picture books for young readers on Ometepe. School libraries on Ometepe especially appreciate books written in Spanish, even though it’s possible for children there to read books written in English. (Bainbridge high school students write in translations before the books are distributed.)
Susan Bisnett, a youth services library associate at the Bainbridge branch and a member of the Library Committee, compiled a wish list of books available in Spanish through Ingram Book Group. She also arranged them according to the system of reading levels used at the Islas Hermanas Biblioteca, the model library in San Jose del Sur that was funded by a Library Committee grant from the PaperSeed Foundation in 2013 and 2014.
The books are available through Eagle Harbor Books on Bainbridge. If you purchase books to donate, please contact Susan Shaffer, head of the Library Committee, to arrange for them to be taken to Ometepe.
