Calendars a huge success
Students in Boo Schneider’s third-grade class at Ordway Elementary School surpassed their goal and raised $9,945 for projects on Ometepe with their 2013 "Kids Can Make a Difference" calendar.
Students in Boo Schneider’s third-grade class at Ordway Elementary School surpassed their goal and raised $9,945 for projects on Ometepe with their 2013 "Kids Can Make a Difference" calendar.
After returning from Ometepe with the 2012 Student Delegation, Clara Hayes happened on a quote by artist and storyteller Brian Andreas that defined her experience: "Most people don't know there are angels whose only job is to make sure you don't get too comfortable and fall asleep and miss your life." For Clara, Ometepe was that angel.
For the past several years, the student delegation has taken on a community service project on Bainbridge, in addition to the work they do on Ometepe. The 2012 student delegation's contribution to Bainbridge: volunteering to pull ivy at the Housing Resource Board's Ferncliff Village.
The celebrations held on Ometepe in January 2012 to mark the 25th anniversary of our sister island relationship were a truly remarkable statement about the strong bonds of friendship that have been created between Ometepe and Bainbridge.
The day of the 25th celebration started off grey — perfect weather to work on decorating Ruben Dario elementary school. When we went back to change and eat lunch, a downpour struck. But damp decorations didn't spoil the day.
