A 2014 delegate with schoolgirls on Ometepe
Tickets are now on sale for the 2015 student delegation’s auction and dinner, which will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, May 9, at The Island School, 8553 NE Day Road on Bainbridge Island. If you can’t attend, please consider making a tax-deductible donation. All proceeds go to projects on Ometepe.
Delegates who will be visiting Ometepe this summer do all of the work in planning and carrying out this annual dinner and auction. It’s a major undertaking for students who are also juggling classwork, Advanced Placement and college entrance exams, and sports and other activities during the busy spring season. The event is the only actual fund-raising event held by the Sister Islands Association each year.
This will be the 26th student delegation to Ometepe. Students will be staying in four towns: Taguizapa, Mérida, La Palma and La Concepcion. Each town group will work on a project with people in their community that is funded BOSIA donations. Students will use proceeds from the auction to support other of the established BOSIA programs, including ones to provide safe drinking water, scholarships for Ometepe college students, sign language classes for deaf students, and school libraries.
The dinner and auction will have something for everyone, from the excitement of the Silent Auction to live music by local entertainment groups, special attendees talking about the Bainbridge-Ometepe relationship, plenty of food, slideshows, dancing, games and time to kick up your heels.
Please join us in honoring and continuing to support this rich cultural exchange and source of pride for both of our islands.
