Second- and fifth-graders at The Island School have produced this year’s Kids Can Make A Difference calendar, with proceeds to benefit various projects on Ometepe. The theme of the 2019 calendar is “Highlights of Ometepe and Bainbridge Island.”  For the first time, Bainbridge students and those on Ometepe collaborated on producing the calendar. The Ometepe students suggested the highlights that should be featured for their island, and the Bainbridge students  designed and illustrated the pages.  Half of the months show Ometepe highlights, and half show Bainbridge highlights.

Student artists will sell 2019 calendars in Winslow at Blackbird Bakery, Safeway, and T&C  on the first two weekends of December. Calendars are also available at Eagle Harbor Books and The Island School.

The price remains at $10 a calendar, as it has been since  teacher Alice Mendoza and her third-graders at Wilkes elementary school launched the program 26 years ago. When Alice retired, Ordway teacher Boo Schneider and her third-graders took over the project. When she retired, the baton was passed to The Island School in 2014.
